[Salt Lake City, Utah] – Today, The Moroni Project officially launches its online platform aimed at empowering members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) to make informed, values-driven decisions in political arenas. In an era of political divisiveness, the project encourages voters to align their choices with LDS principles, urging them to reject candidates, like Trump, who fail to exemplify integrity, honor, and compassion.
The Moroni Project provides educational resources, articles, and campaigns promoting political leaders and actions that reflect LDS values. By advocating for civic participation grounded in morality, The Moroni Project invites LDS members to take a stand for principles of righteousness when they vote.
A recent telephone poll conducted by Moroni Project in August indicates that 31% of Active LDS women in Nevada are “not likely” to vote for Trump, in part, because he is a convicted sex offender and felon. (41% in Utah)” Aaron Campbell, Executive Director, states, “Many LDS women were eager to vote for Nikki Haley, and now they are seriously considering other options because Trump is not a candidate they are able to support after his criminal convictions.”
LDS leaders have consistently emphasized the importance of voting according to conscience, not merely following party loyalty or pressure from societal norms. President Russell M. Nelson, the current President of the Church, has underscored that voting is not just a political act, but a moral one, deeply tied to gospel principles by stating, “Your vote is not just a political decision—it is a moral one. Seek out leaders who exemplify integrity, honor, and virtue.” – Worldwide Leadership Training Broadcast, June 2011
During the Saturday morning session of LDS General Conference on Saturday, October 5, 2024, President Dallin H. Oaks, 1st counselor, asked us to avoid contention and be peacemakers. “So, let us follow Him by forgoing contention. As we pursue our preferred policies in public actions, let us qualify for His blessings by using the language and methods of peacemakers.”
Over 90,000 voters in Nevada are LDS and they have a unique opportunity to vote their conscience and change the national outcome as a swing state. “We are on target to convert 10% of LDS voters to reject Trump as a worthy candidate and change the outcome of the race. LDS voters in Utah have a unique opportunity to reject Trump as a worthy candidate and not affect the outcome of the electoral college. In Utah there is no risk in voting your conscience by choosing another candidate or writing-in a person worthy of your vote.” says Aaron Campbell, Managing Director of The Moroni Project.
Frustrated with Trump’s lack of values and poor character, several prominent LDS leaders and politicians came together to form Act in Good Faith PAC and The Moroni Project asking seasoned political campaign consultant, Aaron Campbell, to manage affairs.
The Moroni Project encourages all voters, especially LDS members, to reflect on their values and reject political leaders, namely Trump, who do not embody the virtues of integrity, honesty, and compassion.
